I'm going to show you how to pick a 5 pin padlock with a normal paperclip in this lock picking tutorial. Use a homemade tension wrench and homemade pick using a paperclip. First, take your tension wrench and put it in the bottom of the lock. You will need to keep pressure on it until the lock is picked. Then put the paperclip in the upper part of the lock. Consider that Steampunk has existed since the 1960s and yet more or less languished in obscurity until approximately 2005, which is when it made the leap to costuming. That costuming was what provided the leap to the tangible, despite the fact that Steampunk art had also existed for years.
Who would have thought back in 1991 that you'd eventually be able to play Sonic the Hedgehog whenever and wherever you wanted? Not a crappy Game Gear version, either. I'm talking the full Sega Genesis version of Sonic, available to you on a bus, a plane, or in a rest-stop bathroom. Now imagine how those people would react if you told them the game would also be free. They would think you were crazy.
