Ever since the mid-2000s, there's been a lot of bandying back and forth on the Internet over what exactly Steampunk is. Some people think it's one thing, others another thing, and some think that it shouldn't be defined at all.

There is a ton of evidence that people find a loss from whatever their reference point is more painful than they find pleasure in a gain of the same magnitude.

Red Bull Stratos sent the first skydiver to space in a weather balloon this past weekend. Free-fall jumper Felix Baumgartner reached 24 miles in altitude in the Earth's upper stratosphere before he leaped from the capsule. Felix reached a maximum speed of 833mph, breaking the sound barrier, before slowing down at the atmosphere, where he finished with a 4:20 minute freefall.

Dopamine is a neurotransmitter that motivates us to engage in rewarding activities such as eating and sex. Animals without dopamine stop eating and starve to death.

I couldn't make this up if I wanted to. There's a steampunk adventure book about knitting, and featuring knitting patterns. The full title is "Needles and Artifice: A Refined Adventure Story with Ingenious Knitting Patterns". It's real! Just look at these pictures!

While this is pretty out of the way for people who don't live in Poland, this restaurant, Wodna Wieza, is really gorgeous!

Numerous studies have shown that people are over-confident in their own abilities. Most people, for example, think that they are better drivers than average.

Michael Faraday was awesome. He discovered electromagnetic induction, diamagnetism and electrolysis, and he invented the Bunsen burner (before it was the Bunsen burner). Because of his work, we can make suits that can withstand 1,000,000 volts of electricity and cases to protect our gadgets from nuclear attacks.

I used, I think 4 images for this one. They were mostly partial works begun for making masks. I tinted them using others filters in different ranges and then sandwiched them together as transparencies. From there I worked the colors and transparencies together to get close to my desired effect. After that I hand colored some areas of some of the layers to finish it off.

This ex-mortuary would make a fantastic setting for a steampunk short film or photoshoot, if the crew could avoid any ghosts that might be in the area.

Hardly anyone writes by hand anymore, but I would consider starting again if I had this pen.

I saw this on the internet the other day, and I thought it was great. I think I remember someone making a steampunk pumpkin sculpture a few years ago, but I really loved this one!

People were shown a bunch of writing purporting to make various claims about facts about the world, then were asked later which facts they believed.

I've seen some pretty ugly steampunked guitars in my day, but this isn't one of them. This one's about as beautiful as they get. French company Wild Customs made this Gibson LesPaul into a steampunk masterpiece.

I wish these robots were real, but alas, they're simply the brainchild of Barry McWilliams, an artist who wants to make a book about them. His Kickstarter for only $5,000 is now fully funded, so the book will be coming soon. There's still a lot of time left in the fundraiser, so consider visiting and contributing anyway!

"Jef with one F" from the Houston Press compiled a list of the 10 best steampunk songs, but it's really a collection of the best steampunk music videos. There are some amazing videos in the collection, such as this one, "Brass Goggles" by Steam-Powered Giraffe. It's not the best-looking, but it's a great performance.

The show doesn't have a name yet, but a TV show following a "sexy" Thomas Edison is developed by NBC. Edison is best known for being the inventor of the light bulb, but is the subject of much controversy in the Steampunk world due to his less-than-savory business practices and poor treatment of contemporary Nikola Tesla.

Even most non-video gamers know who Lara Croft is, thanks to Angelina Jolie. The movies were pretty awful, but even I'd go see the next one if it looked like this:

I guess it's steampunk film night, because there's another film out there in the works, though this one is trying to raise money via Kickstarter. The promotional animation that they have up on their kickstarter page is pretty awesome, and from what the director had to say, it sounds like it would be a really cool film.
