Good article. Did not realize it was that simple. My daughter's computer had this problem about 6 weeks ago. We finally ended up using the restore disks to take it back to factory default.
How about a light chaser circuit for your LEDs?

Neat idea. Have you tried using the multi-color LED lights? The ones from Radio Shack will cycle through seven different colors with no special circuit needed. It's built in to the LED.
