Legend says this is Winston Churchill's trick. He used to pull it off with cigars just to elicit a reaction.

Revision3's Brian Brushwood knows how to get attention, especially with bar folk. The presentation is more conversation starter than a look-at-me trick. It's simply a function of inserting a metal pin covertly inside your cigarette. Once the ash starts to defy gravity, look for the double takes.
