iPlayboy Circumvents Apple's Puritanical App Store Policy

iPlayboy Circumvents Apple's Puritanical App Store PolicyPlayboy on iDevice has historically been a big letdown for fans; in order to meet the Apple store "morality" demands, the app offers no nudity, and poorly rated features to boot. But times are changing. Previously stumped on how to circumvent Steve Jobs' puritanism, Heffner and team have now found an alternative to providing loyal Playboy/Apple lovers with a high tech, digital option for browsing.

iPlayboy is web-based service that permits users access to 57 years worth of Playboy magazines. For $8 a month, $60 a year or $100 for two years, users can browse 682 issues and counting—that's over 130,000 pages of words and images. How did the service evade Apple's anti-nudity clause? By skipping the Apple store altogether. To purchase the iPad app, users go directly through Playboy, via the company's own HTML5 Ipad-optimized website, i.playboy.com. Simply visit the browser directly from your iPad, purchase a subscription, and... enjoy.

As Playboy's chief content officer, Jimmy Jellinek, says:  "[Readers] no longer have to store 57 years—682 issues—of Playboy under their mattress."
