Use the Punch Record feature in Pro Tools 8

This video tutorial from Justin at WinkSound explains how to use the quick Punch Record feature within Pro Tools 8 to rehearse and get the right take.

Pro Tools features an intelligent punch-on-the-fly capabilitycalled Quick Punch.

When Quick Punch is enabled, a check appears next to it in the Options menu, and a "P" appears in the Transport's Record button.

Once Quick Punch is enabled, simply record-enable thedesired track, begin playback, and then use the Record button onthe Transport to punch in and out. Quick Punch is non-destructive,whenever it is enabled, destructive recording is disabled.
