Use a self assessment for choosing a career path

Self assessments can be helpful for choosing a career path. Completion of this video will explore which self assessments you might want to take, online possibilities, understanding the results and ways to get access. Find the perfect job today.

1. MBTI Assessments - This career assessment is the most widely used. It determines how you work with people, process information and make decisions. Organizational assessment points to career options and your ways of working. This assessment is available to you through accredited centers and counselors.

2. SII and CISS Assessments - This is a Strong Interest Inventory assessment. It asks what you like in subjects, activities, schooling and occupations. This assessment is available through accredited career counselors. SII looks at what you don't like, then pairs related patterns to different careers that should be satisfying to you. Completion of the video establishes how this assessment can work for you.

3. Online and Other Self Assessments - Skill Scan at skillscan.net helps look at your skills and ones you like to use. It may be available for a modest fee. Many colleges have tests and counselors to administer career assessments and fees may be reasonable. Check your local career center or college for alumni available career tests.

4. Understanding Self Assessment Results - However you do self assessment, consider how the results relate to your individual situation. No test can tell you what to do. You need to talk to people doing the type of work you're interested in. However you complete self assessment, it can be really helpful. While most self assessments will point to limited careers, a career counselor can look at other options to fit your situation.

5. Recommended Self Assessments - While many assessments are not accredited, there are a few validated tests available online. www.keirsey.com offers an alternative to an MBTI assessment. You can go to www.personalitypage.com to see equivalent results.
