Train your dog to sit and lie down

Learn how to train your dog to sit and lie down. The Head of Training at Battersea Dogs and Cat's Home, Ali Taylor, takes you through the technique beginning with when and how to reward your pup. Next learn the proper hand position for getting your dog to sit: place a treat just above your dog's nose then move your hand over his back. Sitting is the first step to lying down, so one your dog has mastered sitting you can move on. A different hand position will help your dog lie down: place a treat beneath his chin, then move your hand to the ground. Once your dog is obedient and an sit and lie down on command, you are ready to teach him to "wait" or "stay."
