The strangle knot is a tough and versatile knot that can be tied and then applied to an object to be secured to. It can also be tied around the object as demonstrated here. The knot is based on the combination of a clove hitch and a overhand knot. It is similar to the constrictor knot although not as secure. It differs from the constrictor knot in that the ends emerge at the outside edges as opposed to between the turns, which makes it slightly harder to tighen.

Rope knots can basically be divided into the following groups:
