The Needle Knot is an extension of the Nail Knot, however considerable more secure. It effects a very smooth, secure join between fly line and leader. In this modern age and the discovery of the Nail Knots, it is rarely used these days. The Nail-less Knot is almost as strong and requires no external instruments in its development.
