This video tutorial will show you how to test and replace your car's EGR valve. There are three different types of EGR (Exhaust Gas Recirculation) valves on today's vehicles in the emission system; ported vacuum, positive back pressure and negative backpressure. To test the EGR valve, inspect and replace vacuum lines, and immobilize the vehicle; put it in park and then put it in neutral and apply the parking brake. Start the engine, and shut the engine off when operating temperature is reached. Connect the hand vacuum pump, apply ten inches of vacuum, observe the diaphragm plate, start the engine, apply ten inches of vacuum and observe the RPM's. To test the negative back pressure EGR, connect the hand vacuum pump, apply ten inches of vacuum, observe the vacuum plate, replace the valve, start the engine, observe the diaphragm plate and replace the valve.
