This video tutorial will show you how to test and replace your car's AIR pump. The AIR pump stands for Air Injector Reactor pump, and plays a key role in lowering hydrocarbons (HC), carbon monoxide (CO) and nitrogen oxides (NOX) for the emissions system. First, inspect the AIR pump drive belt, and then inspect the check valve and diverter valve. Inspect all hose connections on the pump, and inspect and clean the centrifugal fan of any debris. Run the engine until it reaches operating temperature, then squeeze the output hose and bring the engine's RPM's to 1500. Feel for an increase in pulses; if no pulses are felt, replace the AIR pump.
