Taking a Gap Year Between High School and College Video Overview
1. Gap Year
By deferring admission or delaying one year after high school to apply to colleges will not hurt your chances of being accepted to a good school, and, in fact, it may even enhance your chances of getting accepted.
Harvard University recommends on their admissions acceptance letter that you consider delaying enrollment for a year.
Some colleges, such as certain University of California campuses, do not accept deferred enrollments.
2. Gap Year Activities
Delaying or deferring admission to college can be rich and rewarding if you experience a particular language or culture by living abroad with a host family for one year or simply work for a year, learning what it takes to hold a job.
Many high school students feel burnt out after graduation, and taking a gap year off can help reinvigorate students to take on the challenge of college.
