Spread garden fertilizer

Spread garden fertilizer

For a good-looking garden in the spring, spend some time the summer before fertilizing your soil.
You Will Need
* 10-foot by 12-foot garden tarpaulin
* A 10-pound bag of granular fertilizer
* A long-handled garden spade
* A broom
* A dustpan
* A garden hose

Step 1: Laying down the granules
Spread your garden tarpaulin flat on the ground next to the garden. Place the bag of dry fertilizer on the tarp and scoop the granules on top of the old growth.

A good formula for using fertilizer is 10 pounds for every thousand square feet of garden space.

Step 2: Mixing the soil
Dig down about 4 inches into the soil, mixing the dirt, fertilizer, and old growth together. This creates organic mulch, a protective layer that helps enrich the soil during the spring.

Step 3: Clean up the spills
Sweep any spilled granular fertilizer into the dustpan and pour into the garden and mix well into the soil.

Step 4: Be generous with the water
Spray the garden with the hose, making the soil nice and wet. Enjoy the winter months and get ready to plant in the spring.

Fact: Modern researchers are using Biochar, an ancient fertilizer that’s similar to charcoal, as a potential bio-fuel.
