After installing a grip cap or butt plate on a rifle stock you'll need to thin and reshape the butt area. In this video, Larry Potterfield, CEO and Founder of MidwayUSA, explains this process using simple hand tools. He starts by thinning the sides of the wrist to match the width of the grip cap and then blends the newly created flats into the wrist. Once the wrist is of the desired width, a series of flats are filed from the wrist to the butt of the stock, and then blended to give the butt and nice round appearance.
