How to repair your Rubik's Cube stickers temporarily
Games • Puzzles
Here's a three-part temporary sticker solution for your Rubik's Cubes in the case that you are waiting for your Cubesmith order or in case you just need to replace your stickers.
What you need: Paint, scissors, scrap paper, and packaging tape, mailing labels, or anything with adhesive on the back.
Steps:
1. Take your mailing label and place it separate from the rest that you aren't using. Make sure the area is covered.
2. Place a strip of packaging tape over the mailing label, cut the excess off (see tip at bottom for alternative).
3. Take the color of paint you want and put a little on the label.
4. Spread it around with your finger.
5. Let it dry completely. You should be able to know when it is down if you can easily remove the entire thing (in the case that you are using fabric paint) and there is a flaky layer in the parts that didn't make contact with the label.
6. Cut off the excess and then cut it into the size of the original stickers.
7. Remove the lamination of the original sticker.
8. Place the new replacement over the old.
9. Press down firmly and ensure that it is entirely pressed down.
10. Repeat process.
Another alternative is to put the paint on the label, then place tape over, but be careful since the mailing label is very thin, make sure it is ENTIRELY dry before lifting. Having the tape on top will protect the sticker. Yet another alternative is to do the 10 steps, but also coat another layer of tape on top.
The size of the label really determines how many stickers you can make, also the number of mistakes you make in drawing the size of them.
These should last for a pretty long time, at least long enough until your Cubesmith Stickers arrive!
Tip:
Don't put the packaging tape over the mailing label, I found that putting it over after the paint has dried is much more effective. However, make sure the paint is entirely dry since the label is very thin, it can rip if it isn't quite dry.
