"Today I noticed that my AVG anti virus was crashing after each scan. It had been happening for a couple of days but I had ignored it until today. When I went into the log files I was a little shocked to see that I had about 6 trojan horse viruses. I had the trojan horse downloader.bandload AHZS and the trojan horse generic12.BGEI. I've got no idea what all these where and just wanted them off my computer asap.
I went over to the techgeek forum and saw that they had some pretty complexed procedures to get rid of malware, spyware and other nasties and some of the recommendations required buying spyware removal software. It's easy to panic when you get something like this on your PC and just buy the first thing that comes along but I decided to dig a little deeper to see what else I could find on the net.
I came across a thread in the AVG forum that recommended turning off the restore feature in windows and then running the scan. When I checked the AVG log files I noticed that the trojan horse viruses (or what ever they are) were indeed attached to the restore files so I figured I was on the right track.
After I did this everything went back to normal and the scan worked fine. Fingers crossed that this fixes the problem for good."
