How to refinish wood floors with an oscillating sander
Home & Garden • Construction & Repair
This is a tutorial on refinishing wood floors with an oscillating sander. Clear the room of furniture and pictures. Cover all air vents with small sheets of plastic and masking tape to prevent dust from going through the house. Search for nail heads and sink them. If you have shoe molding around the room, remove it. To use an oscillating sander start with coarse sandpaper. Move in a back and forth motion. Get as close to the walls as you can. Repeat the process with medium sand paper and then again with fine sand paper. Once sanded use an edger to get into the smaller areas. Any areas that can't be reached with an edger, use a handheld sander or just hold the sandpaper. Vacuum room so it's ready for refinishing. Apply stain, let dry, then apply the clearcoat finish and then a final coat. Let final coat dry for a week before returning furniature. The final touch is to reinstall the base molding.
