Polish the bolt on a bolt action rifle

Polishing the bolt on a bolt action rifle can really dress up the appearance of the firearm. In this video the Founder and CEO of MidwayUSA, Larry Potterfield, polishes the bolt on a Remington 514 to demonstrate the process. He starts by using some abrasive paper backed with a needle file to polish the flat areas. Once they have been brightened up, he polishes the bolt body lengthwise using an art eraser as a backer. Switching to the next highest grit he cross polishes using a shoeshine motion. This process is continued, switching back and forth between cross polishing and lengthwise polishing, using abrasives of progressively higher grit. The final polish is done using Simichrome polish. The result is a beautifully polished bolt.
