Play killer licks on electric guitar like Paul Gilbert

If you're a musician in need of some lessons, there's no better way to learn than with MusicRadar's so-called "Tuition" instructions. Although the title tuition is misleading, this video class is anything but costly, because it's free, right here. Whether you're looking for help with your voice, bass, electric guitar, drums, guitar effects, piano, Logic Pro or production techniques, Music Radar is here to show you the way.

Paul Gilbert is one of the world's premier guitarists. Known for his work with Mr. Big and Racer X, Paul possesses god-like technique, and he's a fantastic teacher to boot. Finger-rolling whilst bending the string is a tricky business, but as Paul demonstrates, mastering the technique can give you some pretty wild results.

This video tutorial will show you how to play killer licks on electric guitar like Paul Gilbert. See how the venerable Mr. G demonstrates how a simple idea such as string bending can be mutated to yield some pretty special results.

The technique involved is similar to a blues lick often used by Hendrix, but it's notoriously difficult to execute. Unlike normal string bending where your fingers usually stay on the string in question, this lick requires a roll from one string to the next.
