Play blues on an electric guitar like Peter Green

If you're a musician in need of some lessons, there's no better way to learn than with MusicRadar's so-called "Tuition" instructions. Although the title tuition is misleading, this video class is anything but costly, because it's free, right here. Whether you're looking for help with your voice, bass, electric guitar, drums, guitar effects, piano, Logic Pro or production techniques, Music Radar is here to show you the way.

If you've ever wanted to play blues like the greats, MusicRadar shows you their style. Just pick up your electric blues guitar and think of what blues guitarist you want to play like.

This video tutorial will teach you to play blues on an electric guitar like Peter Green. Peter Green first picked up the guitar at age 10, influenced by Hank Marvin, Muddy Waters and BB King. After playing bass in several amateur bands, Peter's first foray into lead guitar was with Peter B's Looners in early 1966.

Later, Peter Green formed Fleetwood Mac with Mick Fleetwood and John McVie, but left the band in 1970 do to his profound take on life after LSD.

The example phrases in the video take their inspiration from Peter's soulful yet economical phrasing on "Need Your Love So Bad". It may sound like a cliche, but really think about the 'feel' of each lick. You should use a very lightly overdriven tone with a splash of reverb. If your guitar is wired for the famous 'out-of-phase' signature tone of Peter's Les Paul, that's great, but don't go rushing to get out the soldering iron if it isn't; the way you play blues is more important than what you play it on.
