Play blues on an electric guitar like Jimi Hendrix

If you're a musician in need of some lessons, there's no better way to learn than with MusicRadar's so-called "Tuition" instructions. Although the title tuition is misleading, this video class is anything but costly, because it's free, right here. Whether you're looking for help with your voice, bass, electric guitar, drums, guitar effects, piano, Logic Pro or production techniques, Music Radar is here to show you the way.

If you've ever wanted to play blues like the greats, MusicRadar shows you their style. Just pick up your electric blues guitar and think of what blues guitarist you want to play like.

Sound like the man who practically invented bluesy rock! This video tutorial will teach you to play blues on an electric guitar like Jimi Hendrix. Johnny Allen Hendricks was born in Seattle and re-named James Marshall by his father. The new and notorious spelling 'Hendrix' came later. Jimi first started strumming on a broom, then an old one-string ukulele, finally progressing to a second-hand acoustic in the summer of 1958. His first band, The Velvetones, led to the purchase of his first electric guitar.

Playing the Greenwich Village circuit, he attracted the attention of Animals' bassist Chas Chandler, who moved him to London, hooking up with drummer Mitch Mitchell and bassist Noel Redding. The Experience was born and the rest, dare we say it, is history...

To capture Hendrix's sound you'll need quite a clean Strat neck pickup tone for some of these examples and a more distorted 'Fuzz Face' type bridge pickup sound for others.
