Play blues on an electric guitar like Buddy Guy

If you're a musician in need of some lessons, there's no better way to learn than with MusicRadar's so-called "Tuition" instructions. Although the title tuition is misleading, this video class is anything but costly, because it's free, right here. Whether you're looking for help with your voice, bass, electric guitar, drums, guitar effects, piano, Logic Pro or production techniques, Music Radar is here to show you the way.

If you've ever wanted to play blues like the greats, MusicRadar shows you their style. Just pick up your electric blues guitar and think of what blues guitarist you want to play like.

This video tutorial will teach you to play blues on an electric guitar like Buddy Guy. Buddy Guy started to learn how to play guitar by ear when he was in his Louisiana high school, rejecting conventional music lessons in favor of the raw passion he heard on blues records.

Record companies thought Buddy Guy sounded to too loud and distorted for the general public due to his use of anti-social effects such as feedback. It was only when a new generation of blues guitarists like Jeff Beck, Eric Clapton and Jimi Hendrix openly admired and emulated him that Buddy started to get the recognition he deserved.

If you want to get the Buddy Guy tone you should aim for a sound that is more distorted than your average blues, but still leans toward overdrive rather than full-on distortion.
