Play banjo-style rolls on the guitar like Albert Lee

If you're a musician in need of some lessons, there's no better way to learn than with MusicRadar's so-called "Tuition" instructions. Although the title tuition is misleading, this video class is anything but costly, because it's free, right here. Whether you're looking for help with your voice, bass, electric guitar, drums, guitar effects, piano, Logic Pro or production techniques, Music Radar is here to show you the way.

British guitarist Albert Lee is world-renowned for his fingerstyle and picking techniques. He's won Guitar Player magazine's Best Country Guitarist award five times in a row and Eric Clapton has called him "the greatest guitarist in the world." Albert Lee has also recorded with Emmylou Harris, Eddie Van Halen, Bo Diddley, Eric Clapton and many others. Right here, he demonstrates his dazzling skills for you to suck up and learn.

This video tutorial will show you how to play banjo-style rolls on an electric guitar for that authentic country blues feel. His video lesson uses hybrid picking in a rolling motion, and usually involves the pick, m and a fingers. The banjo effect comes from using lots of open strings in between picked notes to create a long flurry of notes.

The first example uses the open third string to create a unison sound, together with the F# to G hammer-on to create a banjo-like sound. The second lick uses more open strings and more semitone slides to give a more chromatic bluesy sound.

You can learn the examples in the video by following the tabs here:
