Check out this highly educational video on the palpation of an open cow tract to see how to check for early pregnancy.
Insert your hands with the fingers together into the rectum. Put pressure down onto the rectum and sweep the pelvis to find the reproductive tract. The first thing you should find is the vagina or the cervix. If the reproductive tract is hanging over the pelvis, you can grab the vagina and lift up and lift the tract onto the pelvis. Then locate the cervix with pressure. Then, find the bifurcation of the horns to follow the uterine horns to palpate for early pregnancy.
This is a great video tutorail for veterinarians and farmers alike.
