Oxidize gummy bears with molten potassium chlorate

Oxidize gummy bears with molten potassium chlorate

C For Chemistry delves into the chemistry of science experiments. This chemist knows what he's talking about. These chemistry experiments are not only fun, but very educational for all of those interested in scientific chemical reactions and properties.

This video tutorial will show you how to oxidize gummy bears with molten potassium chlorate.

HOW TO:
1. Melt the potassium chlorate powder.
2. Add a gummy bear to the boiling tube.

CHEMISTRY OF IT:
This is the gummy bear experiment in which gummy bears are added to molten chlorate. In such oxygen-rich environment with sufficient temperature, gummy bears burst into a lilac flame vigorously when in contact with the molten chlorate. Both the gummy bear and the boiling tube are sacrificed for this demonstration.
