Make flash powder from silver nitrate and magnesium

Make flash powder from silver nitrate and magnesium

Watch this science video tutorial from Nurd Rage on how to make water activated flash powder from silver nitrate and magnesium.

WARNING: DO NOT TRY THIS YOURSELF! We are experienced chemists and only other experienced chemists should try this. We are not responsible for any injury as a result of this experiment.

In the first flash, we combine half a micromole of silver nitrate along with three mole equivalents of magnesium and then place on top of a fire resistant support.

If you don't know what a micromole is, you are NOT a chemist and shouldn't be trying this.

A drop of water activates the powder. This causes a strongly exothermic redox reaction that is hot enough to ignite the mixture.

The second flash uses double the amount and the third flash uses quadruple the amount.

It's used to create a brand new Wicked Witch of the West. Instead of her simply melting, all hell breaks loose. Problem solved.
