Don't buy those $100+ laser pointers. Watch this video, and for under $50 you can make your own that is capable of burning, popping balloons, and cutting things!

Do not make the mistake I did the first time -- Do not get a diode that has anything different than 650nm or you will not be able to do this. Also, if you attempt this, you're running the risk of blowing out the diode, so please be careful.
