Make a floral corsage or boutenniere

This video flower arrangement tutorial shows how to make a corsage with matching boutonniere you can wear tonight. Classic red roses and filler flowers of alstroemeria are tied to a wide ribbon base. You can create an entirely different look by choosing pastel or bicolor roses, bold or demure filler flowers, or patterned ribbons. For extra-special occasions, consider turning up the glamour with glitter, or by adding costume jewelry to your design. Attach 3-4" stem wire to each flower, wrap each piece with floral tape. Make a simple bow from the wired ribbon and secure it with wire, leaving 3-4" extra wire attached. For large or floppy leaves, attach stem wire to the backs using waterproof tape. Arrange the roses over the leaves and begin taping the three stems together. Take 2 or 3 wraps, then add the alstroemeria and finish by wrapping all six stems together. Cut excess stem to about 2-1/2" and tie a bow with the second ribbon.

Here is the completed corsage. Tie the extra wire on the base ribbon to the flower stem. Use two corsage pins, one through the stem and the second through the top of the ribbon....catching the wire which is taped to the back of the highest leaf.

Here is a matching boutonniere in just 3 steps.

Attach stem wire to the back of two rose leaves using waterproof tape. Wrap the stems with floral tape.

Twist the leaf stems together to make a backing for the rose. Place the rose over the leaves and wrap the stems together. If you like, you can wrap the stem with a bit of ribbon to match the corsage. Follow along with the step-by-step directions in this instructional video and learn how to make corsages and boutennieres for a prom, wedding, or any extra special occasion.
