Cholesterol blood level is a major risk factor for heart disease. It's the number one cause of death in men and women in the US: 1 million heart attacks a year with 500 thousand deaths due to heart disease a year. Two factors are LDL (bad cholesterol) and HDL (good cholesterol). Any adult over the age of 20 should have cholesterol tested every 5 years.
