Introduce new fish into a fish tank

Whether you are adding a fish to a new aquarium or an existing one, this video will show you how to prepare the fish to be released into the tank. Your retailer will supply your fish in a plastic bag, which you should transport home with great care. Though both the tank and the plastic bag are filled with water they may be quite different. To us the differences are subtle, but differences in temperature or other conditions are significant to the fish. The key to adding fish to an aquarium is to go through each stage slowly and gently, so that the fish don't have any sudden shocks. Resist the temptation to immediately fill up the new aquarium with lots of fish. Just add one or two fish each week, so that the ecosystem in your tank can develop gradually. The video explains the importance of floating your new fish inside their bag in the tank water. A great technique that allows the temperature of the water inside the bag to adjust to the tank temperature, so the fish can become accustomed to it. Also learn about bacteria, which are essential for the health of your fish, as they process the fish's waste and prevent the water from becoming toxic. Finally, release your fish. Your fish are now ready to adapt to, and enjoy, their new home.
