How to inspect and replace your car's choke thermostat

This video tutorial will show you how to inspect and replace your car's choke thermostat. To service the choke thermostat, first start with a cold engine; outdoor temperature must be 50 degrees or below. Remove the air cleaner and snap throttle; choke blade should fully close. Run the engine until warm and shut it off. Remove the air cleaner; choke blade should be fully open. Check for voltage; 8 volts or above. Remove the air cleaner, choke stove, mounting screws and linkage. Compare the new and old units. Reconnect the linkage; reposition the new thermostat and choke stove. Reconnect the electrical connections, check linkage for binding and check out the integrally mounted chokes; note choke setting before removal. Disconnect the electrical connections, remove the screws and thermostat. Compare the new and old units, engage the tab on the spring with notch in choke linkage and adjust as per Haynes Manual.
