Fret-tap the electric guitar like Paul Gilbert

Fret-tap the electric guitar like Paul Gilbert

If you're a musician in need of some lessons, there's no better way to learn than with MusicRadar's so-called "Tuition" instructions. Although the title tuition is misleading, this video class is anything but costly, because it's free, right here. Whether you're looking for help with your voice, bass, electric guitar, drums, guitar effects, piano, Logic Pro or production techniques, Music Radar is here to show you the way.

Paul Gilbert is one of the world's premier guitarists. Known for his work with Mr. Big and Racer X, Paul possesses god-like technique, and he's a fantastic teacher to boot. Paul shows off his ludicrously tight two-handed tapping technique - and shows you how to do it too...

This video tutorial will show you how to fret-tap the electric guitar like Paul Gilbert. You'll need to already be able to tap before tackling Paul's lick here, so brush up on your technique if your basic tapping needs work.

Paul prefers to use his index finger to tap, favouring an upward flick to produce the initial pull-off. Experiment with your index or middle finger, using either an upward or downward flick.
