use it to transport any type of file from place to place. most people only access an ipod with itunes. going through mycomputer and viewing the files allows you to save files in different locations than before. and also allows more safe locations. using itunes to save files to your ipod only allows music, video and audio, but with this you can save text, boot files, any any other kind of file you need. very useful for computer programers and people who repair computers when they are broken.
