Do a dive roll for gymnastics

This is an animated gymnastics tutorial for the dive roll. Use the controls to pause, slow down and follow along with detailed step by step text instructions that match up with each movement. This instructional gymnastics video is incredibly in depth and a great guide for learning the dive roll.

Diveroll - Artistic Gymnastics

A dive roll is a jumped front roll. It's recommended to jump from a trampoline into landing mats before you try this on harder ground. Before you try the dive roll, you should learn the handstand and the frontroll.

Technical description: Diveroll - Artistic Gymnastics

* Run forward and jump from the balls of your feet without bending the knees too much. The arms the trunk and the legs form one line until the hands touch the ground. Elbows and knees extended.
* Jump forward up and keep your entire body extended while you are in the air. There are wide dive rolls and high dive rolls. Wide dive rolls are dive rolls where a line drawn from the spot where you jumped off to the highest point is less than 45 degrees. High dive rolls are dive rolls where a line drawn from the spot where you jumped off to the highest point is more than 45 degrees.
* When your hands touch the floor, your feet should be slightly over the flyline.
* Perform a front roll and stand up on your feet.

Trainer advice: Diveroll - Artistic Gymnastics

* At the beginning you are well adviced to jump from a trampoline into landing mats.
* Don't jump too high or too wide at the beginning.
* Being able to do good dive rolls can help you learn the frontflip and the flyspring faster.

Goood, I've always been a bit shabby with my parkour rolls. Which is very bad, as rolls like these, when tweaked for coming out of high-speed jumps, are good for building up momentum and keeping the flow smooth between moves.
