Dissect a human hand

Dissect a human hand

This anatomical video tutorial will show you a deep look inside the hand of a human, much like yourself. If you're a medical student and you need cadaver dissection instructions, this anatomy video will help you along your way. Learn how to dissect a human for the hand. Before dissection, check out the osteology of the hand, wrist, and forearm.

1. Open the hand, look at creases, and skin the palm (do not cut the recurrent branch of median n.).
2. Reflect the palmar aponeurosis distalward and identify neurovascular structures.
3. Examine the muscles of the thenar and hypothenar compartments.
4. Cut the flexor retinaculum and pull the long flexor tendons toward the fingertips.
5. Follow the radial artery through the anatomical snuffbox and through the 1st dorsal interosseous m.
6. Examine the muscles, nerves, and vessels of all compartments of the hand.
