Before dissection, before you get your hands dirty, learn the osteology of the area before cutting away.

1. Plastinated specimens can be used for this dissection.
2. Dissect one limb only, review as dissecting.
3. Dissect the sternoclavicular joint.
4. Dissect the shoulder joint by removing surrounding muscles, opening the capsule posteriorly and chiseling off the humeral head.
5. Open elbow by removing the anterior and posterior capsules.
6. Dissect the wrist by making a frontal section through the distal radius and ulna, carpals and proximal metacarpals.
7. The hip joint is dissected by removing the overlying muscles, opening its capsule posteriorly and medially rotating the femur.
8. The knee joint is dissected by removing surrounding muscles, opening the capsule posteriorly and reflecting the quadriceps downward.
9. Open the ankle by removing the anterior and posterior capsules.
10. Remove the overlying tissue and clean the ligaments of the plantar surface of the foot.
