Learn how to tell when your baby is ready for solid foods. Generally, breast-feeding and formula is recommended for the first year, but by six months, most babies need more nutrients than those foods can provide. Do not start a baby on solid foods until he/she can control his head, sits upright, controls his/her tongue, chew, and weighs about 15 pounds.
