I would ask all women watching this video to also do some reading. From the books I have read on birthing options, episiotomies are now being abandoned as a norm due to a lack of research supporting their benefits and the building research showing that they may do more harm than good. A good book is The Thinking Woman's Guide to a Better Birth by Henci Goer. She has compiled lots of research and offers very balanced information on your options in labor and delivery. If you're worried about tearing, consider alternative pushing positions like the squat. Lying on your back is, physiologically, one of the most difficult positions from which to deliver a baby. Many blessings to you all. Remember that the female body is perfectly designed to give birth, you have everything you need to have a beautiful birth experience.
