Create a DIY tomato facial scrub with Michelle Phan

Michelle Phan presents this tutorial on how to take a tomato and turn it into an invigorating scrub.

From Michelle's site:

A study by the Harvard School of Public Health reported that tomatoes can reduce the chances of cancer, diabetes, and even heart disease.

Tomatoes contain a source of Lycopene . Lycopene is that bright red carotenoid pigment found in tomatoes. It acts like a sunscreen, protecting the tomatoes against UV rays.

Lycopene is high in antioxidants with a small molecule structure that can easily be absorbed in the skin. Antioxidants are necessary in skin care because they combat free radicals. Free radicals are byproducts that are formed when oxygen is used by the body. Free radicals are highly reactive chemicals that can damage any structure in living cells. The Skin suffers additional free radical damage from sunlight and pollutants wind, and temperature.

Topical antioxidants provide extra protection against environmental damage to the skin and is also effective in slowing down the effect of aging skin.

Materials

-Have one ripe organic tomato ready
-A nice sharp cutting knife
-And last, a tablespoon of fine granulated sugar

We are going to use the top, because the steam can be used as a gripper. So slice off the top.

So here we have the top of the tomato. It's going to become nature's cleansing pad.

Add 1 tbsp of sugar.

Take the top of the tomato and dip it in the sugar..evenly coating it.

Now take the pad and exfoliate it in a circular motion on your skin. Exfoliate it around the nose area and the forehead

Once you have evenly covered your face with the tomato scrub, wait 10 minutes before rinsing it off.

Now rinse off the tomato scrub and towel dry.
