Climb stairs with no railing with a prosthetic leg

Watch this short instructional video clip of Unilateral Below-the-Knee Amputee - Ascending Stairs, with no railing, Step over Step and read the following step-by-step instructions to learn how to function with a prosthetic limb:

Ascending stairs "step over step" is an advanced activity and should not be attempted by a recent amputee unless supervised and protected.
Instructions:

1. Approach the steps.
2. Raise the prosthesis up to the next step.
3. Lean forward to get the weight as much over the prosthesis as possible.
4. Step up with the sound leg and continue with the sound leg to the next higher step.
5. Lean forward to get the weight over the sound leg.
6. Raise the prosthesis up and continue with the prosthesis to the next higher step.
