Choose the microphone on a film set with Ty Ford

Why do you need so many different microphones for your film set? Which one is best for which shots? Find out by watching this sound tutorial video that demonstrates the difference in microphones and how to choose the microphone to best fit your film's demands. This instructional video compares the Countrymen e6 microphone, a standard lavalier microphone, a Sennheiser shotgun microphone, as well as the Schoeps CMC641 hypercardioid microphone. Learn when it's okay to use each of these microphones to get the sound audio quality you need for your film.

Ty Ford, sound mixer, recordist, author, actor and VO talent extraordinaire has graciously agreed to share his Mic Demo Video, wherein he compares a Countryman E6 lav, a Countryman EMW lav, a Sennheiser 416 short shotgun, and a Schoeps CMC 641 hypercardioid microphone.

For newbies starting out in audio, this is a great way to see and hear mic directionality (I recommend using headphones).
