If you're heading to Munich, the best time to do it is when you're still young. They take the Youth Hostel thing pretty seriously there, and Hostel International locations usually will not admit anyone over 26, unless they are traveling with young children. And most of Munich's accommodations are either cheap and seedy or nice and expensive, so getting out there before you turn 27 is your best bet. But if you can get into one of their hostels, Munich has plenty of great options.
