Build a thunderstorm detector

Build a thunderstorm detector

See how to construct a storm detector, consisting of a radio that receives frequencies between 4 and 5 KHz. The first step in constructing this radio is the L-C combination working/resonating on that frequency. Wooden construction is 43 x 43 cm, 4 cm width, with enameled wire 0,1 mm on it, capacitor over the coil must be experimentally found (start with 2 N (=2000 pF) and make the value greater).

Then see the construction of the receiving coil in detail and the connection to the receiver itself by means of coax cable that has its own capacity over the coil. Cable capacity is not substantial (? 20 pF) compared to the 10 NF that is needed. The right capacitor for the drawn coil is 10 N to receive approx. 4.5 KHz.

Then check out the schematic of the storm detector. It is built with modern Silicium transistors on the basis of the old schematic of the sixties. Figured it all out and found that this schematic is the most flexible to publicate on YouTube. After you're all done, you'll be able to detect a thunderstorm on its way into your neighborhood.
