How to attach a sheet to a winch when sailing

Keeping your fingers about a foot from the winch, wrap the line twice around, clockwise. More turns may cause an override. Pull the line by hand until resistance is met. Add another wrap or two and if there is a self tailer, secure the line. Further trimming can be done as needed with the winch handle.
