How to attach a saddle to your horse for a calvacade
Pets & Animals • Horses
Attach a saddle to your horse. Everything is put on, buckled and secured from the left side. Make sure you have the pads lined up with the bottom with one 1/2 inch visible towards the neck. Line the front part of the pad up with the middle of the shoulder.
Line up the stitches on the pad with the backbone, this is the easiest way to make sure everything is even.
Remember to clear everything from the right side before lifting it onto the horse. Try to set the saddle down in the correct place, it is easier than trying to move it once it is on. Make sure that you have nothing stuffed under the saddle. Line everything up, 4 fingers in the front with the same amount of pad on each side. You can also line you salle up with the stitching and backbone. Double check everything at this point before moving on.
Untangle everything but the breast collar. Start with the cinch, then flank strap, and lastly the breast collar. Again check everything from every angle.
The cinch will need to be tightened once more before riding. A feed bag should be hung from the right side of the horn. Saddle bags should be secured, water bottles filled and the bedroll tied on snug. Take your bridle and hang it from the left side of the horn. If you are confident in your saddling, move on and help and check on those around you.
