California State University, Stanislaus (CSUStan), teaches you how to assemble a vegetable oil burner, which is good for an alternative fuel source or for a simple candle, or maybe even enthalpy experiments in chemistry.
Materials needed: A glass beaker, vegetable oil, a long wick and some copper wire.
First, make a loop in the middle of the copper wire, then fold your wick in half and put the wick through the loop, tightening it down. Get the wick right in the middle, and you can use the beaker to find out exactly where to bend the copper wire. Check and make sure it fits, then adjust the arms of the wire, and twist the wick and cut it off. Now, just put it in the beaker and fill it with vegetable oil. It's that easy.
