Ever wonder what you would do if you were walking home alone, and someone ran up to you, and tried to grab you around the neck with their forearm? It's dangerous, it's deadly, and it's considered a mugging. For those who live in cities, especially large ones, then this is for you:

Step 1

Method #1: The good old punch him in the balls trick. A classic, and very simple.

  • Unless the mugger is very large or strong, you should be able to use your free hand to reach around and hit him. If you're exceptionally flexible, you can also twist your leg around to kick him. This is, of course, much harder.

Step 2

Method #2: Pinch him. This is a trick not known to many people.

  • By using one arm to pinch the mugger, he will let loose. The secret: the flesh on the inside of the thighs is extremely tender and thin. Simply by pinching in the area under the groin, the pain will force your attacker to let go, ensuring an immediate escape.

Step 3

Method #3: Grab his eye socket'. It will hurt quite a bit, and may leave the mugger blurry-eyed and moderately dizzy.

  • With your arm closest to the attacker's body, reach up and over his head, and grab the upper part of the eye socket.
  • Then, pull back. This will make the man fall backwards, and you will be free. He will more than likely not be able to stand up for approximately half a minute, depending on his physical stature and immunity level to pain, so you will have some time to run and find help.

Step 4 Method #4: Punch his nose

  • With your arm closest to the attacker's body, reach for the base (under part) of his nose with the crook of your hand (between your thumb and pointer finger).
  • Press in and back, making his head pop backwards. There is a pressure point in there. By pulling backwards, he will lose his balance. If you're talented enough, you can reverse his headlock with this move, just make sure you don't make the same mistake he did!

Tips

  • Carrying a taser around is handy if you are in a country where it's legal, as long as you don't bring it onto planes or boats as hand luggage. You may be unable to use it, however, if you cannot reach it.
  • When they lock their forearm around your neck, turn your head to the side. This exposes the larger muscles on the side of your neck to the attacker's forearm, rather than your jugular. You will be able to breathe more easily, and might be able to slip out of the lock as well. When you are turned to the side, it may be helpful to bite the attacker's arm, although this could be more of a risk to you than to them, as you do not know where their arm has been.

Warnings

  • Further aggravation of the perpetrator will usually result in you being brought down again. Once you temporarily immobilize the mugger, run as fast as you can away from the scene, and seek the help of a cop or community worker.
