If you in an area where snowmobiles are commonly used for transportation and/or recreation you have probably seen this done or tried. To some people it seems impossible but if a snowmobile has enough speed and/or power it can skip across the top of the water without sinking. Here is a "How To Guide" to skipping a snowmobile.
Step 1
Find a lake, pond, or other body of water that is suitable for skipping. You want a gradually sloping shore for easy starting and stopping.
Step 2
Warm your snowmobile up before starting.
Step 3
Pick a spot to take off from the shore and a clear place on the opposite shore to end.
Step 4
Hold the throttle wide open as soon as you hit the water. Snowmobiles with less power will want to do this before hitting the water.
Step 5
Hang on tight, don't panic, and look cool.

Tips
- You should lean back to keep as little pressure on the skis as possible.
- Start out going straight across the water and work your way up to turning.
- Begin with small stretches of water and work your way up to turning.
- Always have ways to get your snowmobile out in case you sink it.
- If and when you sink your snowmobile, make sure to shut it off before it sinks.
Make sure that no water splashes on your belt. If your belt gets wet it will start to slip and you will sink
