If you own 1 to 100 sheep, shearing can be pretty expensive but is required for the heath and comfort of those sheep.

Tip:never avoid shearing because of a shy sheep, lure the sheep with food, give it to th sheep after

Step 1

Wash the sheep to ensure there is no dirt in the fleece. Don't get soap in the eyes.

Step 2

Put the sheep on a blocking stand or tie it tightly to a fence (preferably in a corner). You can place it on its bottom which imobilizes the sheep(watch for kicking legs)

Step 3

Put the surgical or fine blades on your clippers and make sure they are well-oiled or they will get extremely hot and burn the sheep.

Step 4

Start your clippers and make sure the sheep is still wet. Start shaving on the back, trying really hard not to cut the sheep. (It is ok if you make red marks if the sheep has thin skin but if you make it bleed, when you're finished clean out the wound and apply iodine).

Step 5

Hose off the sheep to get all the wool off.

Step 6

Apply Sulivan's Freshen Up to the sheep acording to the directions on the can. (It protects the skin and restores lanolin to keep the skin from drying out).

Step 7

Put your sheep back in its pen and clean up the mess.

Tips

  • Shears can cost anywhere from $300 to $600 dollars.
